Chemnitz is not the first association when you hear the word “culture”. Nor do you think of the Saxon city when the term “technology” is mentioned. Both could change soon: On the one hand, Chemnitz was recently named European Capital of Culture 2025, which brought the city a lot of international attention – but there is also something going on in Chemnitz in terms of technology.
Industrial groups such as Siemens and Thyssen Krupp have been represented in the city for years. However, the automotive industry is really relevant for the added value of the region: The body builder Indicar GmbH and the automotive supplier Magna are located in the immediate vicinity; Volkswagen produces 4,000 engines per day at its plant in Chemnitz.
